The Curse And Cost Of Corruption
Corruption and bribery exists everywhere, in fact it is growing.
Apparently in India corruption is perceived as the civil servants' favourite contest nationwide.
But we should not dump on India. Hardly a day goes by that in the West that this or that politician or leading businessman is not in the news as one who was just caught taking payment for this or that. Actually, this state of affairs if very disheartening for the millions of people who had given their vote to charged and convicted individuals.
People in many countries charged with corruption and alike offences may go to jail. Although, somehow people at the higher level of society are well Lawyered-up and not often sentenced for a jail term.
Corruption must pay for some individuals and companies. We are not talking of small potatoes. For example, corruption in the 28 countries of the EU is costing European taxpayers about minimum €120bn (£100bn) a year, or the equivalent of the union's annual budget.
The fact is that corruption is part and parcel of the modern world, it is growing massively in huge proportions. The developing world losing billions of dollars each years through corruption. In Africa, corruption is the major cause of poverty and conflicts.
As for the fight against corruption? Sounds good, but is like fighting to keep the Titanic afloat after hitting the iceberg.
Some time ago, Alan Greenspan came close to a viable way to deal with corruption. He wrote, "Corruption, embezzlement, fraud, these are all characteristics which exist everywhere. It is regrettably the way human nature functions, whether we like it or not. What successful economies do is keep it to a minimum. No one has ever eliminated any of that stuff."
There it is. Perhaps we can do better. If anyone knows how to do it, just tell us.

Enoy Your Flying Car But Don't Just Drop In
At last! Here is a bit of "Feel good news": The flying car will zoom-zoom above our heads sooner than you expect.
This may well be every commuter's fantasy, especially while boiling in a traffic jam on a Parkway or anywhere else.
Thinking about it, the reality of the flying car could be very scary. Imagine the drivers you see on the roads today, breaking just about every rule in the Highway Traffic Act, having the opportunity to rise above the city and show-off their illusion of playing Snoopy chasing the Red Baron above your back-yard barbecue or doing some "stunt flying"in place of "stunt driving".
Then, you hear the siren of the "flying-police vehicle" chasing these wannabe flying aces. The rest is limited only by one's imagination.
At first, the prohibitive price tag will dissuade your everyday super testosterone equipped fiend from buying one of these flying cars.
However, you may relax. We are still far from the day when a multitude of winged muscle cars will cruise above our heads with good natured operators like the cartoon characters in the Jetsons, or with irresponsible idiots.
But don't hold your breath! Things can happen sooner than you think. A few decades ago air travel was mostly the domain of people who were able to afford the high prices. - Today, almost everyone with a knapsack, in a T-shirt is able to travel.
Not to mention the "bad guys", who may find the flying car a practical way to crush a party, or any other object, in the literal sense.
Relax, there is still time until the flying car will be the mass transit of the day. So, just go ahead, invite your friends to "drop in" anytime for a visit, without scanning the skies above your place for a friend, who after a few warm-up drinks may took your invitation in a literal sense.
